I’ve proclaimed my love for the Internet many times before. I spend hours reading the news, finding out about new start-ups and listening to streaming music and TV. Who doesn’t love the randomness of new things? From my love of Hulu, Pandora, Slacker, Jango and FFFFOUND!, the ways I keep myself sane and entertain myself online are endless. Hence part trois of ways to save money – trolling the Interwebs: the entertainment edition.
Back in my employed days, I used YouTube on Fridays for my own music day. This involved searching for musical gems like Toy Soldiers and then sending them to friends as a happy start to their weekend. Now I spend my Fridays looking for jobs and practicing my French and PHP. Still fun but no Martika.
The Internet is a great place to kill time. Probably too much time but it offers great ways to save money when you’re not willing to pay for things like music, cable and movies. Just in case you hadn’t heard, I have some friends that still don’t know about it, there is Hulu, . From NBC Universal and News Corp, Hulu, is free streamed television and movies. Free. So now instead of watching shows from your television you can stream it on your laptop and multitask. Imagine searching for jobs while listening to 30 Rock. It’s like staying home from school Ferris style.
Even with iTunes going DRM free — can I get a excited fist pump? — $0.99 music may not be on your list of necessities like, for example food That’s why I love free music streaming sites like Pandora, Slacker and Jango. Each offer the same kind of service — spunky company name, music recommendations and solid tunes. I go back and forth between all three and occasionally fall in love with random sharing sites like Muxtape. Either way don’t let your unemployment get in the way of good music.
When you know have to buy things think like your grandma and look for coupons. Skip the print and find it online. Sharing deals with your Internet friends, Slick Deals posts the latest coupons and deals across a plethora of companies. Check it out and see what you can score. It’s legal, trust me.
All of this involves the Internet. Whether you pay for it or find a loop hole, you know the people that don’t block their service, entertainment unemployment style makes you the cool kid at the party. You don’t need money when you can get it for free — just give it up for some sponsored ads.
