How to keep track of your jobs

The great and vast ocean of the blogging unemployed has allowed us to share our knowledge and insight. From answering questions on how we get through to the unemployment offices, when our checks arrive and even how we build our Web sites, there is a lot of sharing going on. We may not have bonuses thanks to the government but it’s okay. We aren’t letting unemployment hold us down. Oh no. We will keep on moving and fighting. Otherwise we might get restless leg syndrome from sitting in our apartments too long and that’s never good.

There’s some cool things afoot and once I have it all worked out I’ll be sharing, but for now I’ll leave it at that. I did want to share this Web site that my also-unemployed friend Mike — one part of the couple whose kitties I feed — just built. Part of my good-at-life plan was being incredibly organized and cataloging all the jobs I applied for and the people that were involved along the way. I did well the first few interviews but have slacked in recent months. I know. Feel free to openly judge, I would. But I’m working on getting back on track which is why when my friend Mike came over today to help me install a shelf, he also showed me his beta site. I got really excited — both about the shelf and his site.

Still in beta, Become’d allows you to type in notes, set reminders for important follow-up dates and tracks the jobs you apply for. Check it out and play around. He reads all the emails and appreciates the feedback. He still talks to me and I send a lot of suggestions.

  • From a fellow laid off person, this site looks exactly like what I was looking for...can't wait to check it out!
  • Thanks for the plug for my site, Rachel!

It's improving every day with more features, and I'd love to hear people's feedback (note the big red "feedback" button floating on the right hand side of every page). I've designed this for my own needs, and I'm opening it up for the general public and would love to know how it works for people.
