Rickrolled by Caljobs.ca.gov

One of the questions is not like the other questions. One of these questions just doesn’t belong. Can you guess which question is not like the other questions before I finish my song?

With all the blatant references to The Grapes of Wrath I’ve made over these past few weeks I felt like I got Rickrolled by the California Job board with this question: In the last 12 months, have you worked as a farmworker or migrant cannery worker? Crap. John Steinbeck knows I never finished that book  in high school and he’s sending the literary police after me. I didn’t know it was illegal to make references to a book you never finished. My apologizes to John Steinbeck but I am still not going to finish reading The Grapes of Wrath.

It was a joyous day yesterday. Any concerns I had before about my unemployment benefits are now squelched.  I will now be receiving the maximum amount of unemployment ($450/week), and have been approved for an entire year! Yay!  This means two things. I won’t have to move and I’m going to start buying in bulk. Why isn’t anyone making a documentary on that? Living off unemployment: life by the week.

In all truthfulness, I hope to not be on employment long term. For one, California is in the red and I’m not sure when they’ll be handing out IOUs but I don’t want to stick around long enough in the unemployment line to find out. I do wonder if that would work for my credit cards though?  Second, I like to work and there are exciting things afoot and I’m ready to get my hands dirty.  It’s the end of week three for being unemployed and while life does exists, Virginia; there are more opportunities out there just waiting for me to explore.

Can I come to California and get unemployment too or is this just sour grapes of wrath?
