Tales From the Recently Laid Off Rotating Header Image

I love credit card companies

I’m completely serious about the above statement. I love my credit card companies and not because I am currently living off them — which I am not. No, I love them because they are helping me during my unemployment. No joke.

It was time to call them and inform them that I had been laid off. I knew that although I could get my student loans deferred my credit cards were a different story. But I needed to tell them just in case they could help. As a business that primarily exists by loaning out money, they have more than a pretty high interest in my ability to pay them back.

So I was honest. Imagine telling credit card companies the truth? And I have to say it has proven to be a fruitful experience. Once I got over the fear and actually informed them of my situation not only did they offer to help me but they lowered my rate, and now while I’ll be paying the same amount per month, the interest will be lower. It keeps me afloat and also helps me keep my credit rating. Yay for fiscal responsibility on a Sunday!
