Tales From the Recently Laid Off Rotating Header Image

Hobbies of the under-employed

Day Two of being official unemployed. I’ve been applying for a good amount of work. I need to work on my cover letters even though I despise them. They are like my identical twin that got the good genes. Eventually I’ll get over my inner hate and craft the wittiest and most genuine cover letter known to mankind. I’ll make sure to carve it in to stone so that future minds will made better by me. I am a kindhearted evil twin.

Today — other than applying for jobs — I’ve been attempting to build my own vast Web empire to conquer the world. Really, I am just trying to get the two domains I own up and running. Most thrilling is that I’ll be moving this site over to Recently Laid Off dot com. For now the site is a link farm of Go Daddy paraphernalia so be wary of clicking it until I get it fully up and running unless you like the yellow Go Daddy icon.

I’m not sure what other laid-off/unemployed and under-employed persons are feeling right now, but I’m looking to stop saying I want to learn X and starting saying I know how to do X. I had all of these grand notions of excellence when I moved to SF. I wanted to learn programming, learn different spoken languages and be one of those people caught in the moment of a intelligent laughter. You know those people, the uber chic geek. So I’m going to do it. I mean it’s not like I don’t have the time. So for all to see, here are my goals:

1. Build a Web site
2. Learn PHP and Ruby-on-Rails
3. Learn Piano (again)
4. Start running (again)
5. Stop speaking horrible broken French and learn to speak it better
6. Improve my grammar by blogging multiple times a day!

Ah, it’s nice to have goals. Goals are like salt licks. Good to the last lick and satisfying enough for everyday consumption.
